The second amendment was ratified in 1791. The reason why it was ratified is because James Madison wanted to allow the creation of civilian forces that can counteract a tyrannical federal government. With the creation of the 2nd amendment a lot of people have died because of the use of guns and it is a highly debated amendment some people want to keep the right for defensive purposes or collection, and some people want to get rid of it because of the misuse of it in the past.
