Adler believed that the most important elements of psychology had a lot to do with the individual realm but equally to do with the social and community realm. He was the first psychologist to do away with the two chairs and used the symbolic couch to create a sense of social equality between the patient and the therapist. His theories are very different from any mainstream psychologists but he was the first to challenge the system.
