Born on August 24th 1904, William James "Count" Basie lived in Red Bank, NJ with his musician parents. In middle school, he was noticed for his piano talents and was able to help around the local theatre.

Attack 2 : Beat of His Own Drum
After touring with an Oklahoma City band, Basie went on to have a successful solo career with The Count Basie Orchestra. He played the piano but his favorite were the drums. His influence on the jazz and swing era can still be heard in today's music.
