The ten commandments were said to have been given to Moses after saving the nation of Israel from Egypt. Back then the 10 commandments were said to have been taken very seriously and that breaking any of these laws could mean an extreme punishment. Canadian law was greatly influenced it although now there is full religious freedom and the punishments are not as extreme, the principles are mainly the same.
