Juan Ponce De Leon was born in 1474 and he died in 1521.He was a Spanish solider before he went to go exploring. Spain sponsored him. They wanted him to claim land and find riches. He wanted to find the fountain of youth.

He set off in 1493, and sailed to Florida. He claimed it for Spain. He brought gold back to Spain. He ended up being the first Spanish explore to set foot in what is now the USA.
